Tanzanian farmers, producers paid over  2.298tri/- through WRS system

DODOMA: OVER 2.298tri/-has been paid to farmers and producers in Tanzania through the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) during the 2025/26 financial year.

The Executive Director of the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB), Asangye Bangu, made the statement while addressing journalists in Dodoma on July 31, 2026, where he also outlined the Board’s plans and priorities for the 2026/27 financial year.

Bangu said the payments were generated from the sale of agricultural produce traded through the system, which has continued to serve as an important platform for enabling farmers to access competitive markets, increase their incomes, and improve their economic well-being.

According to the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board, the value of trade conducted through the system reached 2.679tri/-, while various local government authorities collected more than 61bn/- through produce-related levies.

Bangu said the Government will continue strengthening the Warehouse Receipt System to increase agricultural productivity, promote produce trade, and enhance the contribution of the agricultural sector to the growth of the national economy.

He added that improving the system will help create a more favourable business environment for farmers and producers while increasing efficiency across the agricultural value chain in the country.
