TISEZA, TLS’s Young Lawyers body sign a three-year legal deal for investors

DAR ES SALAAM: THE newly established Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) and the Tanganyika Law Society Young Lawyers Association (TLS–AYL) have signed a three-year cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening legal services for investors, building the capacity of young lawyers, and improving the investment environment in the country.

The agreement is expected to increase the participation of young lawyers in providing investment-related legal services, while creating more opportunities for them to contribute to national economic development activities.

Speaking after the signing ceremony held in Dar es Salaam on July 29, TISEZA Executive Director, Gilead Teri, said the partnership will combine the efforts of both institutions to enhance the capacity of young lawyers through training on investment laws, entrepreneurship, and modern approaches to providing legal services to investors.

He said young lawyers will also have opportunities to participate in improving policies, laws, and regulatory frameworks governing investment in Tanzania, a move that will enhance the efficiency of investor services and strengthen the country’s position as an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investment.

“Our goal is to ensure that young Tanzanian lawyers do not remain only as contract drafters, but become investment law experts capable of providing professional advice to investors and contributing to the country’s economic transformation,” Teri said.

He added that the partnership will create employment opportunities and professional development prospects for young lawyers, while helping reduce the cost of legal services for investors through increased availability of skilled professionals in the investment sector.

Meanwhile, TLS–AYL Chairperson, Advocate Emmanuel Ukashu, said they decided to partner with TISEZA after recognising the importance of investment as one of the key drivers of Tanzania’s economic growth.

He said the three-year agreement will enable young lawyers to receive comprehensive training on investment laws, enhance their professional capacity, and directly participate in improving the business and investment environment in the country.

Ukashu added that the partnership will strengthen the relationship between the legal sector and the investment sector, contributing to the creation of a transparent, legally secure, and competitive environment that is essential for attracting investors and promoting sustainable economic growth in Tanzania.
