CCM insists on dialogue and reconciliation to maintain peace, national unity, Tanzanian development

ZANZIBAR: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) said maintaining peace through dialogue and reconciliation is a key pillar in strengthening national unity among Tanzanians and accelerating the country’s development.

Speaking to Daily News Digital, CCM Zanzibar Special Committee of the National Executive Council (NEC) Secretary responsible for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Hamisi, said the success of the reconciliation process in the country has been driven by the willingness of leaders to prioritise national interests and seek solutions through dialogue.

He said Tanzanians have demonstrated the ability to address their challenges through discussions without external pressure or interference.

“It is important to put the interests of the country first. We Tanzanians have been able to sit together, hold discussions among ourselves and resolve our challenges without any pressure from outside,” he said.

Hamisi said Tanzania has a long history of using dialogue as a means of resolving political challenges, noting that the practice dates back to the election periods of 1957, the January and June 1961 elections, as well as the 1963 elections before the Zanzibar Revolution.

He said this experience has continued to develop through various reconciliation efforts undertaken in the country, including processes facilitated by the Commonwealth and the agreement reached under the leadership of former Zanzibar President Dr Amani Abeid Karume.

According to Hamisi, the current reconciliation process should prioritise the broader interests of Tanzanians rather than the interests of political parties or individual leaders.

“Our President and Chairperson has continued to emphasise that we should not stop talking. Tanzanians must continue engaging in dialogue so that we remain united, strengthen solidarity and bring development to our country,” he said.

He stressed that successful reconciliation requires patience, trust and respect for the confidentiality of discussions until they reach an agreement that benefits all parties involved.

Hamisi added that these efforts have laid the foundation for a new chapter in Tanzania’s reconciliation history and should be sustained for the benefit of present and future generations.
