Chamwino DC orders proper use of CSR funds

DODOMA: CHAMWINO District Commissioner Janeth Mayanja has directed investors operating in the district to ensure Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds are used properly by investing in permanent community projects that directly benefit local residents.

She said CSR contributions should be channelled into projects such as classrooms, health facilities and water wells instead of being handed over as cash to village governments.

Ms Mayanja issued the directive during a tour by the Chamwino District Security Committee to inspect investment projects, including Dodoma Washed Sand Company in Mlebe and Chinangali II villages, CDIC Marble Company in Manyemba Village and Skydiscover Company, which is mining and processing copper and nickel in Kwahemu Village.

She said the practice of giving CSR funds directly to village governments should be discontinued, noting that such an arrangement could lead to misuse of the funds.

“My directive is that companies should stop giving money directly to village governments. What we need is development. If residents need a classroom, obtain the approved design from the council and construct it according to the required standards,” Ms Mayanja said.

She said the approach would ensure CSR resources leave a lasting impact by improving access to essential social services for communities living in investment areas.

The district commissioner also urged investors to prioritise employment opportunities for youth and residents from host communities and expedite implementation of their projects so that the investments begin contributing to the district, the region and the national economy.

Meanwhile, CCM Chemba District Chairperson Shaaban Kilalo has commended improvements at Chemba District Hospital, saying government funding under the Sixth Phase Administration has enhanced healthcare services through improved infrastructure, modern medical equipment and quality service delivery.

Mr Kilalo made the remarks during a District Political Committee tour to inspect development projects in Chemba District Council, where he praised doctors and nurses for their commitment to serving patients.

“The doctors at Chemba District Hospital are doing an excellent job. I visited the children’s ward and spoke with mothers who confirmed they were received well and attended to promptly. We congratulate the health workers and encourage them to continue providing quality services,” he said.

Chemba District Commissioner Halima Okash urged residents to seek treatment at the district hospital whenever they face health challenges, saying the facility now has enough doctors to provide quality healthcare.

District Executive Director Hassan Mnyikah encouraged women, youth and people with disabilities to take advantage of the council’s 10 per cent loans, saying funds are still available to support income-generating activities.

The political committee also inspected several development projects, including the Waida Village dispensary, a modern abattoir, the Better Tomorrow for Youth (BBT) farm and community economic empowerment initiatives financed through the council.
