ATCL ordered to act tough on its underperforming employees  

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Transport, David Kihenzile, has directed the Director General of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) to take disciplinary action against employees who fail to provide quality services to the public.

Kihenzile issued the directive while addressing ATCL employees, stressing the importance of staff treating passengers and members of the public with respect and providing services professionally.

He said any employee who disrespects citizens contributes to creating conflict between the Government and the people it serves.

“There are people out there who are more qualified than us but do not have jobs. We have been given this opportunity, so we must use it well by providing better services,” Kihenzile said.

The Deputy Minister also directed ATCL to prepare an additional plan to increase the number of aircraft in its fleet in order to strengthen the airline’s capacity and expand its operations.

He said the plan should not rely solely on the Government purchasing aircraft, but should also consider alternative options such as leasing or acquiring planes through commercial arrangements.

“Come up with an additional plan, not one that depends only on the government buying aircraft; it should include options such as leasing or purchasing,” Kihenzile emphasised.
