Italian airline set to boost tourism connectivity
KILIMANJARO: NORTHERN Tanzania is set to gain stronger links with Europe after Italian airline Neos launched scheduled flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), a move expected to boost tourism and business activity in the region.
KIA Director Eng Rehema Myeya said the airline’s entry marks an important milestone in the growth of air transport connections between Tanzania and European markets, with the new service expected to support tourism, trade and investment.
“Neos’ confidence in this destination reflects the growing appeal of the northern part of the country as one of Africa’s premier tourism and business destinations,” Ms Myeya said during the launch ceremony at KIA.
She said the airport serves as a gateway to major attractions, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park, adding that improved air access would make it easier for international visitors to explore the country’s natural and cultural attractions.
The introduction of Neos brings the number of international airlines operating through KIA to 16, further expanding the airport’s role as a key entry point for global travellers.

Ms Myeya said the new route represents more than an additional flight, describing it as a step towards stronger economic ties, increased tourism opportunities, enhanced business links and potential job creation.
Neos Station Manager in Zanzibar, Ms Antonella Balestra praised Tanzania’s investment environment, saying supportive policies had enabled the airline to operate in the country for more than two decades.
KIA Marketing and Research Manager, Ms Zefrin Lubuva said Neos flights, scheduled weekly every Wednesday, would benefit hotels, tour operators, transport providers and local communities while supporting growth in tourism and international trade.
The new service adds momentum to Tanzania’s efforts to expand aviation links and attract more visitors to its northern tourism circuit.
