Mwigulu, Butiku call for stronger national values
DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, Mr Joseph Butiku, have called for stronger national values, patriotism and the rule of law to safeguard the country’s development and unity.
The two made the remarks yesterday during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam, where they discussed governance, national cohesion and the role of public institutions in promoting sustainable development.
Dr Nchemba said lasting national development depends on building citizens who uphold integrity, patriotism and accountability, while strengthening public institutions and adherence to the rule of law.
“There can be no sustainable development without citizens who embrace good morals, patriotism and accountability. As a nation, we must continue investing in building responsible citizens while strengthening our institutions,” he said.
Mr Butiku commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership and also praised the Prime Minister for overseeing the implementation of government programmes across the country, saying his regional tours have helped address citizens’ challenges and improve service delivery.
He also thanked the government for its continued cooperation with the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, including support for the planned Mwalimu Nyerere World Leadership Institute, describing the foundation as an important partner in national development.

Mr Butiku stressed the need to nurture a society founded on mutual respect, tolerance, patriotism, the rule of law, human rights and democratic principles.
He urged Tanzanians to engage in constructive criticism within the framework of the law, saying respect for leaders, elders, retired public officials and religious leaders remains essential for preserving national unity, peace and stability.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, accountability, justice and the performance of public institutions to better serve citizens and safeguard peace and stability.
He said the government would continue working closely with the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation to promote patriotism, national unity and ethical leadership, including supporting the establishment of the Mwalimu Nyerere World Leadership Institute as a centre of excellence.
