Morogoro road, bridge projects to boost economy
MOROGORO: MOROGORO Region is now better positioned to accelerate its development following the implementation of major road and bridge projects in Malinyi and Ulanga districts.
The optimism was expressed by Minister for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega recently during an inspection tour of ongoing road and bridge infrastructure projects in the two districts.
He said funds have already been allocated in the 2026/27 national budget to finance the projects, which are expected to facilitate agricultural production, improve crop transportation and support mining activities.
The projects include upgrading the 112-kilometre Ifakara-Lupiro-Malinyi road to bitumen standard and constructing the 100-metre Fuluwa Bridge and Namahanga Bridge.
Mr Ulega said the projects form part of the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment to connecting all local government authorities in Morogoro Region to the regional headquarters through reliable road infrastructure, ensuring safe and dependable transport services.

On the bridge projects, the minister directed the contractor constructing the 100-metre Fuluwa River Bridge to work around the clock to ensure timely completion and improve transport links for residents of Malinyi and neighbouring districts.
He also instructed TANROADS’ Engineering and Consulting Unit (TECU) to expedite the processing of project documents once submitted by the contractor to avoid unnecessary delays.
“The project supervisor should ensure that the contractor orders all construction materials in advance, especially those imported from China. This project must not be delayed because once the Fuluwa and Namahanga bridges are completed, Malinyi District will be fully connected to neighbouring districts,” Mr Ulega said.
He further pledged to continue improving transport infrastructure in the district through the construction of the Malinyi-Kilosa road via Mpepo to Longo, which will connect Morogoro and Ruvuma regions.
Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima thanked the Sixth Phase Government for reviving the long-delayed road project, saying it would accelerate economic development and improve transport services within the region and beyond.
Earlier, Acting TANROADS Regional Manager for Morogoro, Engineer Patrick Rambika, said the 100-metre Fuluwa Bridge will be fitted with street lights.
He said the bridge will eliminate long-standing transport challenges between Malinyi Town and surrounding areas while strengthening connectivity with Ulanga, Kilombero and Morogoro.
