Tanzania’s expertise in the blue economy  impresses the visiting delegation from Somalia 

DAR ES SALAAM: SOMALIA has commended Tanzania’s expertise in the blue economy, saying a learning mission to the country provided valuable lessons beyond expectations and will bring significant benefits to Somali citizens.

The Head of the Somali delegation, Director of Economic Affairs in the East African Department at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi Warsame, said the visit was successful and enabled the team to gain knowledge in various areas related to the development and utilisation of marine resources.

Speaking after concluding the visit, Mr Warsame said the experience gained in Tanzania would support Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its blue economy initiatives and improve the livelihoods of its people.

“The visit has been very good. We have learnt many things that went beyond our expectations, and this will bring great benefits to the people of Somalia,” he said.

The delegation visited Tanzania as part of efforts to learn from the country’s experience in developing the blue economy, a sector increasingly recognised as a key driver of sustainable development through fisheries, maritime transport, tourism and other ocean-based activities.

Meanwhile, Senior Economist from Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr Francis Makusaro, thanked the Federal Government of Somalia for selecting Tanzania as a destination for the training.

He said the decision demonstrated the strong and longstanding relations between Tanzania and Somalia, which have been built and nurtured by leaders of both countries over the years.

Moreover, he said that Tanzania remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Somalia through knowledge sharing and partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable use of marine resources for economic growth.
