Dr Samia insists on peace, reconciliation and political tolerance for socio-economic progress

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on Tanzanians to embrace peace, reconciliation and political tolerance, saying citizens are not looking for chaos and endless political disputes but a stable environment that allows them to pursue economic and social progress.
Speaking in Zanzibar during the signing of a joint declaration between Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and ACT Wazalendo, President Samia said reconciliation was not a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to placing national interests above party and individual interests

She commended the leadership of CCM and ACT Wazalendo, particularly Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi and ACT Wazalendo Zanzibar Chairman Othman Masoud Othman, for choosing dialogue and reconciliation in pursuit of a shared peaceful future for Zanzibar.
“Citizens do not need violence or endless political conflicts. They need peace, security and stability,” President Samia said, stressing that people’s priority was to see governments provide quality social services, support economic activities and create employment opportunities in a peaceful environment.

Additionally, she stated that the reconciliation efforts represents a new chapter in strengthening unity, peace and solidarity among Zanzibaris and Tanzanians, adding that political competition should be based on respect, wisdom and constructive ideas rather than hostility and confrontation.
“Where there is politics of hatred and conflicts, development loses ground. But where there is respect and reconciliation, development gets an opportunity to grow,” she said.
