Zanzibar President pledges to work closely with political leaders in overseeing the political reconciliation

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar said the ongoing political reconciliation process is expected to strengthen national unity, restore public confidence and create a more conducive environment for economic growth, investment and social development.
Speaking during the signing of a joint declaration in Zanzibar marking the completion of the first phase of the reconciliation process, the Isles President described the milestone as a significant step towards implementing the constitutional provisions for the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
“This process reflects my administration’s commitment to fostering unity, reconciliation and cooperation among Zanzibaris for the benefit of all citizens,” he said.

Additionally, Dr Mwinyi pledged to work closely with political leaders in overseeing the second phase of the process, which will involve dialogue on agreed agenda items, expressing confidence that all parties will prioritise Zanzibar’s interests and reach a lasting consensus.

According to Dr Mwinyi, a successful reconciliation process would strengthen confidence among citizens, investors, business communities and development partners, enabling them to continue supporting Zanzibar’s development agenda in a peaceful and stable environment.
Moreover, President Mwinyi called on leaders of all political parties, religious leaders and citizens to support the process, saying sustainable development can only be achieved where peace, unity and national cohesion prevail.

He said the experience of former Zanzibar presidents Amani Abeid Karume and Ali Mohamed Shein provides valuable guidance for the current process.
