TANROADS pledges to maintain roads infrastructure after named the EAC model in public service

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) has pledged to accelerate construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of road infrastructure across the country following its recognition as the best public service institution in the infrastructure sector in East Africa.
Speaking at TANROADS headquarters, Chief Executive, Engineer Mohamed Besta, said the award reflects the Government’s achievements under President Samia Suluhu Hassan in expanding and improving road infrastructure, while also serving as motivation to strengthen accountability and service delivery.
He said the agency will intensify efforts to meet growing public expectations by ensuring road projects are implemented efficiently and deliver safe, high-quality transport infrastructure nationwide.

“We recognise the high expectations of citizens regarding road infrastructure. We will continue supervising project implementation effectively to ensure they get safe and quality roads,” Engineer Besta said.

He noted that TANROADS was recognised for its contribution to infrastructure development, connecting strategic areas, improving project management and supporting economic growth through an expanded road network.
TANROADS was named overall winner at the East Africa Public Service Awards 2026 held on June 30 in Dar es Salaam, bringing together public institutions from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

Engineer Besta added that the agency will continue working with stakeholders and incorporating public feedback to further improve transport services and ensure road investments generate greater economic impact for citizens.
