Arusha RTO warns drunk drivers

ARUSHA Regional Traffic Officer SP Solomon Mwangamilo has issued a strong warning against drivers who will be found driving while drunk, saying stringent disciplinary measures will be taken against them.
The RTO sounded the warning in Arusha yesterday while speaking to drivers at the Arusha Bus Terminal.
SP Mwangamilo said that any driver who will be caught driving while drunk will be dealt with according to the law.
He added that the traffic unit does not bar any one from using alcohol but directed drivers to abide by laws and traffic regulations.
SP Mwangamilo noted that police would not hesitate to revoke the licence of any driver, including prosecuting anyone who put the lives of people at risk.
“It is my responsibility as head of regional traffic unit to make sure that all passengers are travelling safely, thus drivers must comply with the laws and regulations including not using alcohol while driving,” he said.
SP Mwangamilo further said that the main cause of accident has been speeding, calling upon drivers not to pay attention to those who prompt them to drive recklessly in order to avoid accidents.
