RC Burian directs Tanga City Council to ensure all CCTV cameras directly linked to the Police systems

TANGA: TANGA  Regional Commissioner, Dr Batilda Burian, has directed the leadership of the Tanga City Council to ensure that Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in various parts of the city are directly linked to the Tanzania Police Force systems.

She said the move is aimed at strengthening the security and safety of citizens and their property, while also improving efficiency in combating crime amid the rapid growth of economic activities in Tanga City.

The directive was issued in Tanga during a special council meeting held to review the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) audit queries for the 2024/25 financial year.

Dr Burian emphasized that the city’s economic expansion has come with increased opportunities, which have also attracted individuals with criminal intent, making the use of modern technology essential in enhancing security.

“To control this situation, it is important that the CCTV cameras you have installed are connected to the Police Force system. This will enable us to take swift action whenever incidents of crime or breaches of peace occur,” said Dr Burian.

On his part, Tanga Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Rashid Mchatta, urged municipal officials to move away from outdated practices and fully adopt modern public financial management systems.

He stressed the need to increase the use of electronic systems in procurement and revenue collection in order to curb loopholes that lead to loss of public funds.

“The government has put in place these systems specifically to enhance transparency, accountability, and prevent revenue leakages. It is important to use them effectively to strengthen financial discipline,” said RAS Mchatta.

Overall, the initiative to integrate digital security systems and strengthen electronic financial management is seen as part of a broader strategy to position Tanga City as a model for urban security and public resource management.
