Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah returns home after a mission to deepen Tanzania-Namibia’s historical relations

DAR ES SALAAM: THE President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has departed Tanzania after completing her three-day state visit, which took place from June 19 to 21, 2026.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah was seen off at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, alongside senior government officials, diplomats, and other dignitaries.
During her visit, President Nandi-Ndaitwah held official talks with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, where the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding historical relations and cooperation between Tanzania and Namibia across various development sectors.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, agriculture, energy, and social development. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international matters, emphasizing the importance of African solidarity in addressing development challenges and global economic shifts.

In addition to the high-level talks, President Nandi-Ndaitwah participated in the launch of the Tanzania–Namibia Business Forum, which brought together business leaders and investors from both countries to explore new trade and investment opportunities.
She also visited several historical sites, including Magomeni, Mikumi, and Kongwa in the Dodoma Region, which hold important records linked to Namibia’s history and the liberation struggle in Southern Africa.
The visit has been described as a significant milestone in strengthening diplomatic, economic, and social relations between Tanzania and Namibia. Leaders from both countries have pledged to ensure that the agreements and directives reached during the visit are implemented effectively to benefit citizens of both nations and further deepen their long-standing friendship.
