Police urge cooperation in crime prevention

DODOMA: THE Police Force has called on citizens to strengthen cooperation with Ward Police Officers and community policing groups to help identify and prevent crime before it occurs.

Community Police Commissioner (CP) Alex Mkama made the appeal during a meeting with police officers in Dodoma Region aimed at strengthening police operations and discussing strategies to address security challenges facing communities.

CP Mkama said the Police Force has continued to bring services closer to citizens through the Ward Police system, making public participation crucial in maintaining security.

He urged residents to report criminal activities and suspects promptly to enable law enforcement authorities to take appropriate action.

“The success of community policing depends on close cooperation between citizens and the Police Force. Public participation is essential in identifying and preventing crime,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dodoma Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gallus Hyera, called on officers in the region to perform their duties with professionalism, integrity and patriotism while enhancing public awareness on security matters.

He said educating citizens on security issues would strengthen cooperation between communities and the Police Force and contribute to efforts to curb crime.

In a related development, the Dodoma Regional Police Force and local leaders have agreed on joint strategies to enhance crime prevention by addressing moral challenges at the family and community levels.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between police officers and local government leaders in Dodoma District aimed at strengthening security and public safety.

Speaking at the meeting, Dodoma Municipal Community Policing Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Regina Mtana said declining moral values and drug abuse were among factors contributing to criminal activities, particularly among young people.

She urged communities to provide information on crimes and offenders, noting that criminals often live within the same communities affected by their actions.

ASP Mtana also cautioned local leaders against resolving criminal cases through informal arrangements outside the legal framework, stressing that criminal matters should be reported to the relevant authorities.

She further encouraged community members, particularly young people, to participate in community policing initiatives as part of broader efforts to strengthen safety and security
