Brussels Airline brightens Tanzania’s tourism season with direct flights to KIA

ARUSHA: BRUSSELS Airlines has launched direct flights between Belgian capital, Brussels and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), renewing efforts to bolster tourism, trade and investment ties with Europe.
The inaugural flight landed at KIA on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, marking the implementation of the Air Services Agreement signed between the governments of Tanzania and Belgium in November 2021.

The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in air transport, tourism, trade and investment.
Speaking during the reception of the airline’s first flight, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Millya, said the new route from Brussels, the headquarters of the European Union, reflects the growing diplomatic and economic relations between Tanzania, Belgium and other European countries.
“The direct flights will create new economic opportunities by making travel easier for tourists, businesspeople and investors from Europe while also providing Tanzanians with improved access to European destinations through Brussels Airlines’ extensive international network,” he said.
Moreover, the launch is also expected to boost tourist arrivals to Tanzania’s leading attractions, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park and Zanzibar. Officials say the new service will help increase tourism earnings, create jobs and stimulate broader economic growth across the country.
