Ambassador Matinyi presents credentials to Algeria FM

Algiers, Algeria: Tanzania’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, presents copies of his credentials to Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, in Algiers on Tuesday.

Ambassador Mobhare Matinyi arrived in Algiers on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, ready to officially begin his duties representing Tanzania in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria as Ambassador, marking another significant chapter in his diplomatic career and Tanzania’s growing engagement with North Africa and the wider Sahel region.

The envoy has been stationed in Algiers at a time when Tanzania continues strengthening its political, economic, and diplomatic footprint across Africa, in line with broader continental cooperation goals under the African Union and regional economic integration initiatives.

Algeria, one of Africa’s largest economies and among the continent’s most influential political actors, remains strategically important in matters of regional peace, energy, trade, and security cooperation.

Upon arrival at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers, Ambassador Matinyi received a warm diplomatic welcome from senior African envoys accredited to Algeria.

The reception reflected the significance attached to Tanzania’s diplomatic presence in the region and the close cooperation among African diplomatic missions stationed in Algiers.

Among those who welcomed him were the Dean of Ambassadors of Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states accredited to Algeria, Ambassador Ndumiso Ndima Ntshinga of South Africa, Ambassador Toko Diakenga Serão of Angola, and Ambassador Abdellatif Al-Layeh of Egypt.

Officials and staff from the Tanzanian Embassy in Algiers, led by Chargé d’Affaires Suleiman Mussa Rashid, also received the newly appointed envoy.

Ambassador Matinyi was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on April 24, 2026, after serving as Tanzania’s Ambassador in Stockholm, Sweden, since May 2025.

His reassignment from the peaceful Nordic region to North Africa demonstrates Tanzania’s continued determination to deepen diplomatic, political, and economic relations across the African continent while expanding strategic partnerships beyond East Africa.
