Africa Day Swahili Brunch hailed for promoting Tanzanian culture

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has expressed his delight over the successful hosting of Tanzania’s first-ever Africa Day Swahili Brunch, held on May 24, 2025, as part of efforts to promote Tanzanian culture.

Mr Kombo said the event served as an important platform for strengthening unity, peace and trade among diplomatic communities, bringing together ambassadors and spouses of ambassadors serving in Tanzania.

Speaking during the occasion, the minister noted that Tanzania is a nation blessed with rich cultural diversity, adding that the identity of Tanzanians is deeply rooted in unity, solidarity and respect for African traditions and customs.

He highlighted key elements of Tanzania’s cultural heritage, including traditional food, attire, ornaments, the Kiswahili language and Tanzanian music, describing them as symbols of the country’s enduring cultural pride and African identity.

Africa Day is commemorated every year on May 25 to mark the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which later evolved into the African Union (AU).

The celebrations aim to strengthen African solidarity, promote African culture and provide a platform for discussing the continent’s social, economic and political development.
