PCCB probes 8.23bn/- projects in Singida, recovers 167m/-

SINGIDA: The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Singida Region has helped recover more than 167m/- after inspecting several projects worth 8.23bn/- during the period from January to March 2026.

Addressing reporters today (May 15, 2026), Singida PCCB Regional Chief, Sosthenes Kibwengo said that during the period under review, the anti-corruption watchdog monitored projects in the education, health, roads, administration, and water sectors.

According to the findings, a total of 15.62m/- had been paid to contractors for the supply of construction materials that were not delivered to project sites.

“Following follow-up actions, materials worth the same amount were eventually delivered to the respective projects,” he said.

He added that PCCB investigations also uncovered that a total of 36.80m/- had been paid to contractors who supplied construction materials that did not meet the quality standards specified in contracts for various projects.

Kibwengo further said that a total of 34.45m/- was recovered and returned to the Government following investigations into various allegations involving the misappropriation of public assets.

Additionally, 95 complaints were received, of which 51 involved acts of corruption, while 44 were unrelated to corruption and the concerned individuals were appropriately advised.

During the period under review, he added, six new cases were filed in court, while three cases were concluded, with the prosecution winning all three.

“PCCB in Singida Region calls upon and encourages citizens to continue cooperating with the bureau by reporting acts of corruption so as to jointly build a society founded on integrity, transparency, and accountability for the welfare of the people,” he stated.

He urged citizens to shun corruption acts and stating that “corruption does not pay.”
