Masauni insists on tree planting for sustainable forest and land management

KILOSA: THE Minister of State in the Vice-President’s Office, Hamad Masauni, has said environmental conservation cannot succeed through policies and statements alone, but requires practical action at all levels, including tree planting and sustainable forest management.
Speaking during a tree-planting exercise in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region, today, May 15, 2026, Eng Masauni said Tanzania’s Vision 2050 carries ambitious goals that demand innovation and strong environmental protection strategies to address the growing impacts of climate change.
The exercise is part of activities organised by the Vice-President’s Office ahead of the World Environment Day celebrations scheduled for June 5 this year, with national commemorations set to take place in Dodoma Region.
He noted that environmental conservation and climate resilience form one of the key pillars of the National Development Vision 2050, stressing that all citizens must take an active role in protecting the environment.
“We are witnessing floods, unpredictable weather patterns, drought and many other effects linked to climate change. As a nation, we must prioritise efforts to strengthen resilience against these impacts,” he said.
Additionally, the minister said that although some people may not immediately see the benefits of tree planting, such efforts are crucial for safeguarding the future of coming generations and protecting Tanzania’s natural resources over the next 50 years.
He also commended Kilosa District and Morogoro Region for involving primary and secondary school students in environmental conservation activities and tree planting programmes.
The minister was accompanied by several leaders from the Vice-President’s Office, including Deputy Permanent Secretary for Environment, Baraka Luvanda, who said the campaign began on Wednesday and has already seen more than 40,000 trees planted in the region.
