Palestine envoy calls for unity in marking the Nakba Day

DAR ES SALAAM: PALESTINIAN Ambassador to Tanzania, Salam Abu Sharar, has called on people across the world to continue remembering Nakba Day, describing it as an important moment in Palestinian history that should never be forgotten.

Speaking during the commemoration of Nakba Day, Ambassador Abu Sharar said the day serves as a reminder of the suffering and displacement endured by Palestinians over generations, while also symbolizing resilience and hope for peace in the future.

“We must continue to remember this day because it carries the history, pain and identity of the Palestinian people,” said Abu Sharar. “Nakba Day is not only about remembering the past, but also about teaching future generations the importance of justice, peace and humanity.”

The envoy stressed that peace and unity remain crucial pillars for every nation in the world, urging global communities to promote understanding instead of conflict.

“Peace and unity are very important in every country,” he said. “Without peace, societies cannot develop, people cannot live freely and future generations lose opportunities. We continue to pray for peace not only in Palestine, but across the entire world.”

Abu Sharar also praised the long-standing relationship between Tanzania and Palestine, noting that solidarity among nations remains essential during difficult times.

As part of activities to mark the occasion, the ambassador invited Palestinians living in Tanzania, together with Tanzanians and other members of the public, to attend a special screening of the film Palestine 36 scheduled for tomorrow.

He said the movie screening is intended to help people better understand Palestinian history and culture while commemorating the significance of Nakba Day.

“We invite all Palestinians and Tanzanians to come together tomorrow and watch the movie Palestine 36 as part of remembering this important day,” he said. “Through films and culture, people can learn more about our history and our struggle.”

Nakba Day is commemorated annually on May 15 by Palestinians around the world to remember the mass displacement that followed the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The occasion is often marked through public discussions, cultural activities, exhibitions and memorial events aimed at preserving Palestinian history and identity.
