Tanzania warns its youth against taking a side in the global wars 

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has warned its youth against being lured into international conflicts and wars, urging them instead to pursue legitimate employment and economic opportunities available both locally and abroad through legal and safe channels.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ngwaru Maghembe, gave the warning at the ongoing Parliament in Dodoma today, May 13, 2026,  when responding to a question from Special Seats MP Jesca Magufuli, who sought to know the government’s strategy to equip youth with awareness on the dangers of participating in international conflicts.

Elaborating, the minister said global conflicts continue to cause severe economic, social and security consequences, with many African youths falling victim after being persuaded to join armed groups or foreign military operations in the hope of earning income.

“Such involvement exposes youth to serious risks, including death, permanent disability and legal complications arising from violations of both national and international laws,” he said.

Additionally, the minister said that the government has continued strengthening civic education and awareness programmes targeting youth through policies, campaigns and projects aimed at helping them make informed decisions for their own welfare and the development of the nation.

He also said that the government is expanding safe overseas employment opportunities through international cooperation arrangements.

Elaborating, he said that in this financial year alone, the government has secured 1,500 jobs for drivers in Qatar and 300 nursing positions in Saudi Arabia as part of efforts to provide alternative and secure economic opportunities for the youth.d.

He further noted that the government is implementing various youth empowerment initiatives, including the allocation of 200bn/- in loans and sector-based programmes designed to increase youth participation in production and innovation activities.
