Comoros’ business envoys visit Mtwara Port to streamline handling of cement vessels at the port

MTWARA: THE Mtwara Port has continued to receive delegations of businesspeople from the Comoros Islands with the aim of formally introducing them to the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and strengthening cooperation in handling cement vessels expected to arrive at the port.
The delegation from the Comoros Islands was led by the Ambassador of Comoros to Tanzania, Ahamada El Badaoui Mohamed.
Following the visit, the business delegation said the Government of Comoros is currently implementing various development projects, including the construction of sports facilities and hospitals, which is driving a significant increase in cement demand in the country.
They explained that they currently rely on cement supplied from Dangote Cement, which is transported through Mtwara Port at a volume exceeding 10,000 tonnes per month.

Due to the rising demand, they have requested the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to strengthen cooperation to ensure that cement-carrying vessels are handled efficiently and on time.
During their visit, the delegation toured port infrastructure, including the new and old berths as well as the cement storage warehouse, where they observed ongoing cargo handling operations.
Acting Manager of Mtwara Port, Mtunze Sudi, said improvements made at the port, including infrastructure upgrades and the acquisition of modern equipment, have enhanced service efficiency and increased the port’s capacity to handle different types of cargo at all times.
The delegation concluded their visit expressing satisfaction with the port’s capacity after receiving detailed briefings and witnessing firsthand the efficiency of port operations.
