Dr Samia calls for a clear, well-regulated framework to manage Tanzanians working abroad

NJOMBE: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for a clear and well-regulated framework to manage Tanzanians going to work abroad, stressing the need to safeguard their rights and welfare.

The Head of State made the call when addressing the nation during the Workers Day celebrations held in Njombe today, May 1, 2026, and directed the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Employment and Relations) to take the leading role in coordinating and supervising the process in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Tanzanian embassies abroad.

President Samia made the call in backing of a dedicated Migrant Workers Support Unit launched by the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA)  with the aim of safeguarding the rights and welfare of Tanzanians workers abroad.

Furthermore, she commended the Tanzania Trade Union Congress for establishing the unit while describing it as a timely step in addressing emerging labour dynamics.

She also urged authorities to fast-track the processing of overseas job opportunities, noting growing demand for Tanzanian workers in foreign markets.

“There are many requests from abroad for workers, so coordination and speed are essential to enable our youth to access these opportunities while ensuring their rights and interests are fully protected,” she said.
