Dr Samia rallies workers to take a leading role in driving Tanzania’s long-term economic ambitions

NJOMBE: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has rallied workers to take a leading role in driving Tanzania’s long-term economic ambitions, as the country prepares to implement its development vision in the 2026/27 financial year.

Addressing the nation during International Workers’ Day celebrations in Njombe today, May 1, 2026,  the Head of State said Tanzania has set an ambitious target of building a one trillion US dollar economy by 2050.

According to the Head of State, workers remain the backbone of the economy and will play a decisive role in achieving the country’s development goals.

“These are ambitious targets, and you workers, as the nation’s labour force, have a critical responsibility in ensuring their success,” she said.

Additionally, President Samia assured employees in both public and private sectors that the government will continue to recognise and value their contribution by improving working conditions and ensuring a more conducive and dignified work environment.

She noted that the upcoming financial year, starting July 2026, marks the beginning of a renewed development journey that will require commitment, productivity and collaboration from the workforce to deliver sustainable economic growth.
