Tanzania reshapes Dodoma into new mining hub besides its capital status

DODOMA: TANZANIA’S Finance Minister, Khamis Mussa Omar, has hailed the Dodoma Region for holding significant economic and social potential across key sectors including agriculture, trade, tourism, and mining opportunities that, if effectively harnessed, could substantially drive national development and improve livelihoods.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, at her office, Omar emphasized the importance of maximizing existing resources to enhance the region’s contribution to the national economy. The visit followed his recent appointment by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

He noted that Dodoma’s central geographic location positions it as a potential commercial hub, particularly if strategically linked with other regions and supported by infrastructure such as dry ports for storage and transportation of containers and goods to both domestic and international markets.

“We also have significant opportunities in agriculture, which employs a large share of Tanzanians, alongside diverse crops, tourism potential, and notably mining. Dodoma is among the regions rich in mineral resources, and if value addition is enhanced in collaboration with other regions, citizens stand to benefit significantly,” Omar said.

She called on stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to invest in strategic projects within the region, including the development of international conference centers, high-end hotels, and mineral processing industries, citing the abundance of resources available.

The meeting was also attended by the Dodoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Khatibu Kazungu.
