Firms join forces to unlock green, climate finance

DAR ES SALAAM: THREE companies have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly advance access to green and climate finance for Tanzanian financial institutions, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The firms are Afropavo Analytics, BSM Washauri (TZ) Ltd, and Dentons EALC East African Law Chambers (Dentons EALC). The partnership brings together complementary technical, strategic, legal and knowledge infrastructure capabilities to address one of Tanzania’s most pressing development challenges, translating available global green capital into bankable, compliant and investment-ready local opportunities.

As Tanzania advances towards its Development Vision 2050, the key constraint to climate-resilient growth is no longer the absence of capital, but gaps in awareness, technical readiness and compliance.

The alliance seeks to bridge this “bankability gap” by creating an end-to-end pathway, from enterprise readiness and compliance to financing and long-term impact reporting. Speaking on the partnership, Afropavo Analytics Director, Rwebu Mutahaba said climate finance should be viewed not as a capital challenge, but as an issue of data and preparedness.

“Our role in this alliance is to transform enterprises into investment-ready opportunities using data, artificial intelligence and structured analytics to bridge the gap between global capital and local impact,” Mr Mutahaba said.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the BSM Washauri (TZ) Ltd, Ms Edna Minja said the initiative aligns with its vision of inspiring future generations through sustainable development.

“By unlocking green and climate finance, we are helping institutions implement their ideas and tap into opportunities that empower Tanzania’s present while shaping a more sustainable future,” Ms Minja said.

Mr Thomas Sipemba, partner at Dentons EALC underscored the growing importance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles in business sustainability and value creation.

“Whether the challenge is growth, operational readiness, risk management or access to finance, ESG has become central to business resilience. We are proud to support this alliance by helping institutions and enterprises strengthen governance, meet regulatory and reporting expectations and structure climate finance solutions that are practical, credible and scalable,” Mr Sipemba said.

The partnership is anchored on three complementary roles, with Afropavo Analytics serving as the technical engine through the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics to align projects with international green finance standards.

BSM Washauri (TZ) Ltd will act as the strategic and institutional anchor, leading stakeholder engagement, business advisory and strategic communications to ensure sustainable adoption. Dentons EALC will provide the legal, regulatory and ESG framework necessary to support credible climate finance delivery and fiduciary assurance.
