Dr Samia, PM hail Simba’s Union Cup victory

ZANZIBAR:  PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Simba for their Muungano (Union) Cup victory, saying the tournament continues to strengthen the values of the Union.

The Head of State sent her congratulatory message through her social media platforms noting that the competition has played a key role in promoting unity among Tanzanians.

“I congratulate Simba Club for winning the 2026 Muungano Cup. Apart from entertainment, sports have continued to be a strong bond that unites us. I also congratulate all eight clubs that participated in the competition for showing friendly competition and enthusiasm that further strengthens the values of our Union,” the President wrote.

Others who congratulated Simba is the Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba who also praised Simba for defeating their traditional rivals Young Africans SC in the final played on April 29, 2026, at New Amaan Complex.

The PM delivered the congratulatory message in Parliament in Dodoma on April 30, 2026, underscoring the tournament’s contribution to national cohesion and entertainment.

Simba SC Tanzania have lifted the Muungano Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Young Africans at New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

A decisive penalty converted by Selemani Mwalimu in the injury time of 120- minute game  proved to be the difference, sealing the win in a tightly contested encounter.

It marks the first piece of silverware for head coach Steve Barker since taking charge of Simba  — a strong statement early in his tenure.
