Friends of Tanzania join Tanzanians in celebrating the Union Day in Austria

VIENNA: TANZANIAN Embassy marked 62 years of Union with a diplomatic reception in Vienna, Austria, highlighting the country’s enduring legacy of peace, unity and stability as key pillars of sustainable development.
The event, hosted on April 27, 2026, by Tanzania’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Vienna, Ms Naimi Aziz, brought together diplomats, representatives of international organisations, business leaders, the Tanzanian diaspora in Austria and friends of Tanzania.

Austria’s Director General for Political Affairs at the Ministry for European and International Affairs, Ambassador Hannah Liko, attended as Guest of Honour, representing the Austrian government.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Aziz said Tanzania has remained a beacon of peace, stability and unity in Africa since its founding, noting that the country has never experienced civil war or internal conflict.

She said the achievement is a result of deliberate and sustained efforts by national leaders and citizens to uphold unity and cohesion, in line with this year’s Union anniversary theme: “Peace, Unity and Solidarity are Key Pillars for Sustainable Development.”
Ambassador Aziz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a strong, peaceful and prosperous nation, stressing that Tanzania’s strength lies in its diversity and collective spirit.

On her part, Ambassador Liko commended Tanzania for celebrating 62 years of Union and praised the country’s continued leadership in promoting peace and stability in Africa.
She also lauded the longstanding diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Austria, which span 65 years, and expressed Austria’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, green energy, education and sustainable development.
