Tanzania bans foreigners from providing services of companies owned by Tanzanians

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has banned any non-Tanzanian from engaging in the distribution of goods or provision of services that have been officially designated to be carried out by companies that are 100 percent owned by Tanzanians, as part of efforts to strengthen local participation in the mining sector.

The announcement was made on April 27, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma by the Minister for Minerals Anthony Mvunde while presenting the ministry’s revenue and expenditure estimates for the 2026/27 financial year.

The Minister said the measure is part of the implementation of the Local Content Policy in the mining sector, as well as strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) obligations for holders of mining licenses.

  1. What a wonderful decision, Tanzania should focused on tourism and investment as well. Most of the lodges and tour operators in Tanzania own by foreigners this leave Tanzanian citizen get less pay. When I had talked with the owner of Afoyo African safaris he said Tanzania tourism Board should amend the law that favor more local tour operators rather than favoring foreign investors.

    1. Great sense of patriotism, inspiration for local businesses, awareness and balanced use of natural resources. We pray that other countries in Africa learn from Tanzania. The middle East has done so for decades

      1. Tanzanian what weza kweli?.. I’m thinking what if we do the same in Kenya to Ban Tanzanias then I realized what businesses do they own..? None that is legal that I can think of….please help me

They should say they are banning Kenyans..they have always complained about us doing business in their country, some Kenyan have faced attacks about it ,yet majority they are not sharp in businesses..
This will only lead to poor economy due to lack of competition in business.

    2. Business competition breeds innovation and productivity. Thats how the developed world prospered. Protection breeds complascence and inferior performance. When TZ talks about banning foreigners from participating in businesses they are referring to Kenyans. Why? They blamed Kenyans for deaths ofcthousands of Tanzanians killed during last elections. Therefore, there seems to be a logical coonection between the sad deaths of innocent Tanzanians and banning Kenyans from doing business in TZ. Its killing creativity, innovation and productivity. We need each other to prosper. Protectionism is retrogressive and intellectual arrogance by Tanzanian elites. Kenyans will never be discouraged or intimidated.

      1. We anticipate anti-kenyan conflict or xenophobia to begin in Tanzania any time now. My advise to our brothers from the other parts of the world, shun Tanzania too.

  2. If Tanzania gets the balance right, it could transform its mining economy.
If not, it could slow investment and create inefficiencies.

  8. Mimi hiyo Tanzania na maujinga zao siwezi ata tembea. Why can’t you embrace Africanism? Why do you have so much grudge and bitterness towards a black human like you are?

All revenue comes from foreign companies

  12. And with this, what happens to the hundreds of Tanzanias in Zambia and DRC doing the same? She we close their businesses and revoke licenses too?

  13. Tanzanian wata weza kweli?…mmm.

Will Tanzanians actually pull this off?
I wondered what would happen if Kenya retaliated with a similar ban, but then I realized they don’t seem to have many significant legal business interests here. They often claim Kenyans dominate their market and there have even been attacks because of it, but many of them simply aren’t as competitive in business. Ultimately, banning foreigners, more so Kenyans ,will only hurt their own economy by eliminating the competition that drives growth.
