Tanzania sets mining strategies to boost economic growth

DODOMA: EXPERTS from the Ministry of Minerals have met to discuss the direction of a strategic plan aimed at increasing the contribution of the Mining Sector to national economic growth.

The session focused on identifying areas with high productivity, including mineral value addition, technology investment, and improving the mining and mining business environment.

Speaking at the session in Dodoma, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Eng Yahya Samamba stressed the importance of effective management of mineral resources, explaining that the plan should be in line with the national development vision for 2050 by ensuring that the sector becomes internationally competitive and beneficial to the people.

For his part, the Commissioner for Minerals Dr AbdulRahman Mwanga explained that the implementation of the strategies will increase transparency, productivity, and Government revenues through strong control of mining and mining business activities.

The Ministry’s management is committed to strengthening coordination among sector institutions, increasing private sector participation, and accelerating policy and legal reforms to facilitate sustainable growth of the country’s mining sector.
