Local contractors urged to embrace joint ventures

DAR ES SALAAM: LOCAL contractors have been urged to operate their companies in full compliance with laws and regulations governing joint ventures and public procurement, while executing construction projects professionally by engaging qualified experts to avoid operational challenges.

The call was made by the Registrar of the Contractors Registration Board (CRB), Engineer Rhoben Nkori yesterday, during the opening of a two-day specialized training on Contractors’ Joint Ventures being held in Singida from April 16 to 17, 2026.

Speaking at the training, Eng Nkori said the initiative aims to build contractors’ capacity to better understand and effectively implement joint venture agreements in line with legal frameworks, sound project management practices, and the need to enhance competitiveness and quality in the construction sector.

He said that the government has amended public procurement laws, stipulating that projects valued at not more than 50bn/- will be executed by local contractors.

“This makes joint ventures among local contractors inevitable, particularly for those seeking to participate in large-scale projects,” he said.

Eng Nkori emphasized that the training provides an opportunity for contractors to learn from various facilitators on key topics, including best practices for establishing successful joint ventures.

Participants will also benefit from shared experiences, both successes and challenges, from employers who have previously engaged in joint venture projects.

“We recognize that many local contractors are still in lower classes and face challenges related to experience. These trainings are designed to encourage them to appreciate the importance of collaboration and partnerships in executing large projects effectively, thereby strengthening their companies and contributing to the sustainable growth of the construction sector,” he said.

He further underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration among local firms with diverse capacities and expertise to improve efficiency and quality in project implementation.

The training has brought together contractors from various regions, including Singida, Geita, Mwanza, Manyara, Arusha, Mbeya, Katavi, Dodoma, Dar es Salaam, and Morogoro.
