Tanzania insists on close ties with religious bodies in safeguarding peace, security, national unity

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has reaffirmed the Tanzanian government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with religious leaders as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard peace, security, and national unity in Tanzania.

Speaking during a working session with religious leaders in Dar es Salaam, the Minister said he had been entrusted by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to serve as a bridge between the Government and religious institutions to enhance dialogue, consultation, and collaboration on matters of national interest.

He emphasized that the government recognizes the important role played by religious leaders in promoting moral values, unity, and social harmony, noting that continued engagement between the government and religious institutions remains essential in maintaining peace and stability across the country.

The meeting brought together approximately 45 religious leaders from different faiths and was also attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Maduhu Kazi and the Registrar of Societies, Emmanuel Kihampa. The session provided an opportunity for exchanging views on strengthening cooperation, compliance with laws and regulations, and fostering mutual understanding between the Government and religious communities.

Minister Katambi further noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs will continue to uphold the constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania and ensure a secure environment that enables citizens to live peacefully and contribute to national development.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive dialogue with key stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the country’s long-standing tradition of peace, unity, and coexistence among people of different faiths.
