Tanzania allocates a dedicated fund for youth-owned startups

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced that the government will allocate a dedicated fund to enable the Ministry responsible for Information and Communication Technology to provide capital to youth-owned startups, allowing them to grow and compete in the digital market.

She made the remarks today, April 10, 2026, during the launch of 758 communication towers and fibre optic backbone connections across 85 districts, as well as the official handover of the national fibre optic backbone infrastructure at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.

“We will allocate funds that will enable the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to provide capital to youth startups so they can grow further,” President Samia said.

She further emphasised that investment in the ICT sector is critical for the country’s economic future, particularly in creating employment opportunities for young people and strengthening digital service delivery across multiple sectors.
