Tanzania engages 7 hospitals with specialized services for medical tourism mission

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has intensified efforts to strengthen medical tourism by engaging seven hospitals to provide specialized and super-specialized healthcare services.

Of the seven hospitals, five are public and two are private hospitals.

Deputy Minister for Health, Florence Samizi, said this when responding to a supplementary question from Catherine Joachim, who sought clarification on the government’s strategy to involve private hospitals in contributing to the national economy and integrating medical tourism with other tourism segments.

Elaborating, Dr Samizi said that ongoing improvements to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy are aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare services while attracting international patients to Tanzania.

“The government continues to refine PPP frameworks to boost investment and efficiency in the health sector,” she said.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister said that the government is also developing guidelines and targeted strategies to improve health infrastructure, alongside continued training of specialists to expand the country’s capacity to deliver medical tourism services.

Moreover, he said that Tanzania is strengthening international cooperation by sending healthcare professionals abroad for training and hosting experts from other countries, a move aimed at enhancing knowledge exchange and further developing the sector.
