DSE, Strathmore to boost corporate governance

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Strathmore University Business School (SUBS) to provide leadership and corporate governance training, as part of its efforts to strengthen efficiency in financial and business institutions.

The three-year partnership establishes a framework for capacity building programmes aimed at enhancing leadership skills, ethical decision-making and sustainable business practices among market participants and corporate leaders.

DSE’s Chief Legal Counsel Ms Mary Mniwasa said the training will place strong emphasis on corporate governance and sustainable business management, with a particular focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

“Through this partnership, we aim to equip our stakeholders with the capacity to run businesses with accountability, transparency and a strong commitment to sustainable development,” she said.

The training programmes will initially target management teams of companies listed on the DSE, including the exchange itself.

A total of 22 domestic companies listed on the stock market are expected to benefit from the initiative.

SUBS’s Executive Dean Dr Caesar Mwangi said the initiative is part of the institution’s broader strategy to increase the number of skilled professionals who can enhance productivity, drive business expansion and support economic growth.

“Today marks an important milestone, as this partnership will unlock the potential of local professionals and strengthen efforts toward achieving the goals of the Development Vision 2050,” said Dr Mwangi.

He added that the collaboration reflects ongoing efforts by Tanzanians to expand opportunities and ensure companies continue to grow on strong professional and institutional foundations.
