Tanzania cherishes its growing influence in regional integration, infrastructural progress

HARARE: TANZANIA has reaffirmed its growing influence in regional integration and infrastructure development.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, CP Suzan  Kaganda, made the reaffirmation during a high-level strategic dialogue held at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare, which brought together senior government officials, diplomats, economists and political leaders under the theme “Strategic Autonomy: Balancing Africa’s Interests in Geopolitical and Economic Shifts.”

The discussions focused on Africa’s position in the evolving global political and economic landscape.

During the dialogue, Ambassador Kaganda presented Tanzania’s role in advancing regional cooperation through its membership in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC).

The envoy told the various participants that Tanzania continues to serve as a key pillar in promoting regional unity and shared development across the continent.

Moreover, Kaganda stressed Tanzania’s strong track record in infrastructure investment, citing modern road networks, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), and ongoing port expansion projects as critical drivers of trade efficiency, positioning the country as a strategic gateway for commerce in the Southern African region.

On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Kaganda held talks with the Acting Head of Education and Research at the Sokoine University of Agriculture, Maulid Matawala, who is in Zimbabwe on an official visit.

Their discussions focused on strengthening higher education collaboration between Tanzania and Zimbabwe, particularly in research, academic exchange, and institutional partnerships.

While in Zimbabwe, Prof Matawala is expected to meet leaders of various universities, including the University of Zimbabwe, to explore further opportunities for cooperation in education and research.
