UDSM students trained on financial discipline
UNIVERSITY of Dar es Salaam students have been urged to build financial discipline and management so that they can serve money which will enable them to make various investments and earn additional income.
Speaking recently during the 3rd symposium on banking, finance and investment organised by the University of Dar es salaam Business School (UDBS) Finance Department held at UDSM recently the UDBS Head of Department, Dr Tobias Swai said there is a need for continuing to provide financial management and investment education to students so that when they complete their studies they can use the knowledge in investments.
“It is very important to continue providing training to students on financial management and investment, something that will build their capacity in financial management and investment when they complete their studies,” he said.
“Our goal is to see financial and investment education reach our young people and spread it in the communities, something that will help to promote community understanding in the financial discipline and investment,” said Dr Swai.
He noted that training on banking, financial and investment issues should continue to be given to students so that they can understand and see that investment is not necessarily to have much money than the knowledge needed.
“This is the third time we are holding the symposium and we are grateful to see the number of participants increases each meeting,” Dr Swai said.
Moreover, he said the Finance Department will continue to collaborate with its stakeholders to ensure that the symposium continues to be held to reach more students.
“We invite various stakeholders from banks and other financial institutions to sponsor this symposium so that we can reach many students so that they can become ambassadors to their fellows ,” he said.
On his part, the Director of Finance and Administration of Watumishi Housing Investment (WHI), Mr Paskali Massawe who was the facilitator of the symposium said financial and investment training should be given to students in order to build saving culture and see the importance of investing in capital markets.
“WHI has come up with profitable investment fund to investors thus the symposium is an opportunity for students to join the fund and invest,” Mr Massawe said
UDSM college student Mrs Saada Ahmed Zidadu expressed her satisfaction with the symposium saying it has opened up their mind on issues related to financial management and the importance of investment.
“The course I am studying is different from financial and investment matters, so this symposium, has helped me to know many things about investment in parallel with investing in my own goals,” Ms Zidadu said
The conference on banking, financial and investment issues is held every three months with the aim of building students’ capacity on the importance of banking and investment issues.
