Tanzania participates in UK Global Health Summit in London

London, UK: The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Seif Shekalaghe, is leading Tanzania’s delegation at the UK Global Health Summit 2026 being held from March 16–18 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.

The Summit brings together ministers, global health leaders, development partners, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the world to discuss the future of global health cooperation at a time when health systems globally are facing mounting pressures.

In the opening session, speakers highlighted a range of critical challenges affecting global health, including shortages of health and care workers, increasing demand for healthcare services, financial pressures on health systems, and the growing impact of climate change on public health. Participants also noted the need for renewed international cooperation and sustainable investment in health systems.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, emphasized the importance of strengthening global partnerships and investing in resilient health systems capable of responding to both present and future health challenges.

He underscored that effective global health cooperation must be built on long-term partnerships, shared knowledge, and mutual respect among countries.

Tanzania’s participation in the Summit reflects the country’s continued commitment to strengthening its health sector and advancing international collaboration to improve health outcomes.

The discussions at the Summit are particularly relevant to Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access, strengthen the health workforce, and enhance research and innovation in the health sector.

The Tanzanian delegation is engaging with international partners, academic institutions, and development organizations to explore opportunities for cooperation in health systems strengthening, medical training, research partnerships, and healthcare investment.

The Summit also provides an important platform for Tanzania to share its experiences and reforms in the health sector while building partnerships that can support the country’s long-term health development agenda.

The UK Global Health Summit is expected to continue over the coming days with discussions focusing on health workforce development, innovation in healthcare delivery, and new models of international collaboration aimed at strengthening health systems worldwide.
