The potential use of national IDs for travel aims to simplify cross-border movement for citizens, reduce reliance on passports for short trips, and facilitate trade and business between the two countries. Officials noted that ensuring the legal recognition and security of these IDs will be crucial before implementation.
The initiative reflects growing efforts to strengthen long-term cooperation and friendly relations between Tanzania and Uganda, with the ultimate goal of benefiting citizens through easier travel, enhanced trade, and stronger regional integration.
