Tanzania welcomes home its citizens fleeing the US-Israel-Iran war

DAR ES SALAAM: SEVEN Tanzanian nationals who were stuck in Iran have arrived in Dar es Salaam tonight following a rescue operation coordinated by the Tanzanian government.
The Tanzanians arrived at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) at 8:40 PM aboard a Turkish Airlines flight from Turkey, where they had been received after crossing the border from Iran.
At the airport, the returning citizens were welcomed by Ambassador Abdallah Kilima, Director of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, along with other ministry officials. The reception was marked by emotional reunions with family and relatives, who had been deeply concerned about the safety of their loved ones.

Upon arrival, the Tanzanians expressed gratitude to the government for coordinating their safe return, noting that the operation brought them great relief amid ongoing unrest in Iran.
The Tanzanian government took urgent measures to protect the lives of its citizens who were in Iran for studies and other activities. The journey home began on March 11, 2026, from the Razi border in Iran to Kapıkule in Turkey, where they were received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Turkey, Mr Iddi Seif Bakari, together with embassy officials.
The returnees are reported to be in good health, and the government will continue closely monitoring security conditions in the Gulf region to ensure the safety of other Tanzanians who remain in those countries.
