Yellow Women, TZ Green claim wins in TCA Trials 2026

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Yellow Women and TZ Green men’s team registered victories in the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Trials 2026, played over the weekend at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club in the City.

The trials brought together players from the men and women’s national team pools, with the matches observed by former Indian cricket star Sandeep Patil, who arrived in the country on March 5 for a cricket development mission and was expected to depart yesterday.

Patil, a member of India national cricket team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, is on a five-day visit to Tanzania at the invitation of the Tanzania Cricket Association under its chairman Dr Balakrishna Sreekumar.

During his visit, he was expected to assess the country’s cricket structure and provide recommendations to strengthen the development of the sport.

In the women’s trials fixture played on Sunday, TZ Yellow Women secured a narrow three-run victory over TZ Red Women in a low-scoring but closely contested match.

Batting first, TZ Yellow Women were bowled out for 77 runs in 20 overs, setting a target of 78 runs.

In response, TZ Red Women struggled to build strong partnerships during their chase. Several players, Perice Kamunya (12), Linda Justine (3) and Neema Pius (4), were forced to retire hurt, disrupting the team’s momentum.

Adolphina Jeremiah topscored with 15 runs, while Aisha Ally Rashid remained unbeaten on 13. Mwanamvua Ushanga added a quick 10 runs from 6 balls, but the side ultimately fell short, finishing on 74/3 in 20 overs.

With the ball, Sophia Jerome delivered an outstanding spell, taking 2 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs to help defend the modest total. Lightness Eliud also chipped in with 1 wicket for 13 runs.

In the men’s trials match played on Saturday, TZ Green defeated TZ Blue by 22 runs via the Duckworth– Lewis method after rain shortened the contest.

TZ Blue posted 107/7 in 20 overs, with Ivan Ismail leading the scoring with 28 runs, while captain Maker Mukesh contributed 21 runs. Extras added 17 runs to the total.

TZ Green responded strongly, reaching 94/2 in 12 overs to seal a comfortable victory.

Abhishek Kumar played a key role with 25 runs from 16 balls, while Alishihab Bukhari added 23 runs from 14 deliveries. Several batters retired after quick contributions, maintaining a high scoring rate throughout the innings.
