Bagamoyo TC to spend over 500m/- on new bus stand

BAGAMOYO: THE Bagamoyo Town Council, Coast Region is planning to spend over 500m/- in construction of a new bus stand at Dunda Ward in the coming 2026/2027 financial year.
The council’s Development Director, Shauri Selenda said during a recent council meeting that the current bus stand no longer meets the growing transportation needs following the council’s elevation to a town council last year.
“In addition, the current bus stand area is frequently flooded during the rainy season, causing major inconvenience to travellers. The construction of a new bus stand will help to address these challenges,” he said.
Mr Selenda added that the council also plans to construct shops and other commercial facilities at the new bus stand to support income-generating activities.
He further revealed that the council is planning to establish a truck parking yard at the dump area located in Sanzale Street, Magomeni Ward.

“The taxes and fees to be collected from these facilities are expected to increase the council’s revenue, which will be used to finance other development projects,” he added.
During the meeting, Shaibu Ndemanga, District Commissioner for Bagamoyo District, directed the council to prepare adequate school infrastructure to accommodate the expected increase in student enrolment following the implementation of the new education curriculum.
The new curriculum is expected to change the structure of primary education in Tanzania, with primary schooling set to end at Standard Six starting next year.
