ITB Berlin affirms Tanzania as Africa’s most dynamic travel destination

BERLIN: TANZANIA has stepped onto the global tourism stage at ITB Berlin 2026, presenting itself as one of Africa’s most dynamic travel destinations while strengthening tourism partnerships with Germany and other international markets.
With a delegation of more than 169 representatives led by the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), the country is using the world’s largest tourism trade fair to highlight its diverse attractions, ranging from iconic wildlife destinations to rich cultural heritage. This year’s presentation is guided by the theme “Complete African Experience,” which reflects Tanzania’s effort to integrate adventure tourism, cultural exploration, and sustainable travel practices.
During the exhibition, the TTB unveiled an interactive pavilion designed to immerse visitors in Tanzania’s tourism offerings. The pavilion features virtual experiences that allow attendees to explore key destinations such as Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, giving international tour operators and travelers a glimpse of the country’s renowned wildlife landscapes.
Sustainability has emerged as a central pillar of Tanzania’s tourism strategy. As global travelers increasingly seek environmentally responsible destinations, the country is promoting tourism models that prioritize conservation, protect biodiversity, and support local communities. Through its participation at ITB Berlin, Tanzania is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable tourism across the African continent.
Mr. Ibrahim Mitawi, CEO of Showtime Event Company and a prominent figure in Tanzania’s tourism sector, emphasized the significance of sustainable development in the industry.
“Tanzania is not just a destination; it is a story of resilience and harmony between nature and culture. Our presence at ITB Berlin reflects our commitment to sustainable tourism so that future generations can continue to enjoy our rich heritage,” he said.
Beyond promotion, the Tanzanian delegation is using the platform to strengthen collaboration with German tour operators, travel agencies, and tourism stakeholders. Germany remains one of the most important source markets for international visitors to Tanzania. Officials are working to develop customized travel packages that appeal to German travelers, who often seek adventure, wildlife safaris, and authentic cultural experiences.
Tanzania is also highlighting regional tourism cooperation within the East African Community (EAC). By promoting East Africa as a unified travel destination, the region aims to increase international tourist flows and improve global visibility for destinations across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

According to the Tanzania Tourist Board, regional collaboration plays a vital role in expanding the tourism market. By combining diverse landscapes, cultures, and wildlife experiences across the region, East Africa can offer visitors a broader and more integrated travel experience.
Cultural heritage is another key focus of Tanzania’s showcase at ITB Berlin. From the traditions of the Maasai communities to the Swahili culture found along the Indian Ocean coast and in historic towns such as Zanzibar, Tanzania offers visitors opportunities to engage directly with local cultures.
Tourism officials emphasize that promoting cultural tourism not only enriches the visitor experience but also contributes to economic empowerment for local communities through the promotion of traditional crafts, local cuisine, and cultural exchanges.
As ITB Berlin 2026 continues, Tanzania’s strong presence signals its ambition to expand its footprint in the global tourism industry. By promoting sustainable travel, strengthening international partnerships, and showcasing its cultural and natural heritage, the country aims to attract a growing number of global travelers seeking unique and meaningful experiences.
