Dodoma completes 362 projects in 100 days

DODOMA: DODOMA Region has completed 362 development projects worth more than 25bn/- within the first 100 days of the second-term administration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, reflecting accelerated efforts to improve public services and infrastructure.

Presenting the region’s progress report to residents on Thursday, Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule said the projects were implemented across various sectors to improve service delivery and stimulate development in the region.

“This is a significant achievement. Many projects have been completed within a short time and we are proud of the progress made,” she said.

Ms Senyamule explained that local government authorities in the region have also strengthened frontline services through the recruitment of 620 new public servants, including 362 health workers and 258 teachers.

She noted that the region has rolled out the Universal Health Insurance scheme, registering 20,841 poor households, equivalent to 46,515 beneficiaries, who have already been verified and issued with health insurance cards under government support.

“This initiative will enable vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children under five, persons with disabilities and the elderly, to access medical services more easily,” she said.

In rural electrification, the region has connected 150 sub-villages to electricity within the first 100 days.

Ms Senyamule said the government has also allocated 43.92bn/- to Giza Cable Industry to connect 379 additional sub-villages, complementing a nationwide electrification programme spearheaded by the Rural Energy Agency (REA). The national three-year project, valued at 1.2tri/-, targets the connection of 9,009 sub-villages across 25 regions.

“We are witnessing sub-villages transforming into modern settlements through electricity access. This is a significant milestone,” she said.

The region has also intensified supervision of strategic projects, including the construction of Msalato International Airport, the Dodoma Ring Road and the establishment of the Tanzania Defence Forces headquarters in the capital.

During the reporting period, 758 complaints from people were received and resolved through field visits conducted by regional leaders.

In addition, the Regional Commissioner launched a three-day public complaints clinic involving 35 government institutions aimed at providing on-the-spot solutions to citizens’ concerns.

The clinic also offers free medical screening, blood donation services and registration for the Universal Health Insurance scheme.

Ms Senyamule said the region is working to establish a permanent monthly complaints-handling system from hamlet level to the regional administration to strengthen transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance.
