PM graces the construction of 38.4bn/- Eyasi Basin irrigation scheme

ARUSHA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has today, March 6, 2026, laid the foundation stone for the construction of irrigation schemes in the Eyasi Basin worth 38.4bn/- located in Karatu District, Arusha Region.
The project is being implemented by the government through the National Irrigation Commission.

So far, implementation has reached 30 per cent and the project is expected to be completed by November this year.
Once completed, the project will benefit more than 2,500 farmers from the irrigation schemes of Mang’ola Barazani, Maleckchand, Laghangareri, Mbuga Nyekundu, Jobaji and Dumbechand, covering over 5,000 hectares of farmland.
In addition, the project will significantly reduce water loss currently occurring in natural canals, a move that will improve water use efficiency and boost agricultural production in the area.
