Mwanza road safety ambassadors intensify compliance campaign
MWANZA: ROAD safety ambassadors in Mwanza City have called on passengers, drivers and bus agents to fully comply with road safety laws and procedures in order to reduce accidents and protect peoples’ lives.
Speaking yesterday during a cleaning exercise and road safety awareness campaign held at Nyegezi Bus Terminal, road safety stakeholder Ms Subira Sabi emphasised the importance of passengers fastening seat belts while ensuring they sit in seats equipped with functioning belts.
Ms Sabi urged passengers to ask the conductor or driver if seats do not have seat belts or if there are any safety concerns.
She also encouraged the proper use of online ticketing systems to enhance transparency and safety for travellers.
“Some passengers still lack sufficient understanding of the online ticketing system, while some agents have been accused of issuing unofficial tickets instead of using the required electronic system,” she stressed.
Ms Sabi reminded the public of the importance of adhering to road safety laws and following proper procedures from the moment of boarding to disembarking.

On his part, Mwanza Regional Road Safety Ambassador Ms Nyamzala Nduttu called on drivers to observe safe speeds and avoid reckless driving that could lead to accidents.
She stressed that passenger safety must always be the top priority throughout the journey.
Likewise, she urged bus owners to ensure their vehicles are equipped with functional seat belts and to educate passengers on the importance of using them.
Chairperson of Road Safety Ambassadors in Mwanza Region, Ms Flora Kibage, said the road safety education campaign and environment cleaning exercise are ongoing initiatives that will be conducted regularly.
She noted that road safety education is the responsibility of everyone — passengers, drivers, agents and the relevant authorities — to ensure safe travel for all.
