Dr Mwinyi hails reforms at Benjamin Mkapa hospital

ZANZIBAR: THE PRESIDENT of Zanzibar, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has promised the Isles to continue collaborating with Benjamin Mkapa Hospital as well as finding better ways to work together.

He has also congratulated Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma for its reforms and great achievements in providing specialist medical services to the public.

President Dr Mwinyi said this today, March 4, 2026, when he met with the hospital’s Executive Director, Prof  Abel Makubi, accompanied by his delegation, who arrived at State House, Zanzibar.

He has praised the major step in providing specialist services, including kidney, heart, and brain treatment, in the country, a step he explained has reduced the costs for the government and the public of sending patients for treatment abroad.

He has also advised the leadership of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital to develop an outpatient treatment system by reaching citizens in their areas through an outreach programme, as it helps treat more people.

He also commended the hospital for continuing capacity-building training for practitioners through local institutions and international partners.

The Executive Director of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Prof Abel Makubi, explained that the hospital has achieved great success in the ten years since its establishment by providing more than 20 basic and specialized medical services, including kidney transplants, brain surgery, and heart treatment, which contributed to the government’s efforts to make major reforms in the health sector.
