TMDA’s draft of the Strategic Plan for 2026-31 awaits the board’s approval

MOROGORO: TANZANIA Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) has discussed the draft of the Authority’s New Strategic Plan for the five years, 2026/27-2030/31, which reflects the implementation of the National Vision 2050.
This came when the TMDA Management met in the Morogoro region from February 2 to 3, 2026.
The Director General of TMDA, Dr. Adam Fimbo, explained to the members of the relevant session that the relevant draft Strategic Plan carries the new Vision of TMDA, which is “Improving the health and well-being of all Tanzanians through good regulation that meets national standards”.

Dr Fimbo added that the New Mission of the Institution will be “Protecting Public Health by ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines, medical devices, reagents, and all health-related products.”
He said the draft Strategic Plan is the Sixth following the successful completion of the Fifth Strategic Plan. The Sixth Strategic Plan of TMDA is expected to come into effect on 01, July 2026.
Among other things, the draft Strategic Plan aims to ensure the quality, safety, and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products, medical devices, and reagents with the aim of protecting public health.
TMDA leadership has had a participatory culture in discussing major institutional matters, where all employees are involved through various levels within the Authority before being approved by the TMDA Ministerial Advisory Board (MAB).
The new strategic plan sets a common direction in control, will help in planning the use of resources properly, and improve accountability and transparency.
